Hello, as you may know, we didn't get off to a great start!

My name is Emma, I am 17 years old, and I live by the coast (obviously won't put in too much detail here)

I have an 8 year old new forest share pony, two cats, five hamsters, a goldfish, and soon a puppy. (She is 6 weeks old and at the breeders house obviously).

I hope you can forgive me for my previous posts.
Along with riding, I enjoy art, photography, and fishing (catch and release)

Hello R,

You obviously like animals :) so don't forget to check out All about dogs forum and the Pet box forum, Lots of interesting stuff on there too.

I owned a couple of hamsters when I was a kid (I'm very old now! :( ) but they had to be kept separately otherwise they would fight. I think they were Syrian hamsters. There are some, which I understand can be housed all together, are yours this type? and if so what breed are they please? I've seen the very little ones, I think they are called Russian but not sure if they can be kept together.

Any info would be much appreciated :)

i have 4 syrian hamsters and one russian dwarf :) each of the syrians are in individual 1 meter long cages, and my russian dwarf is in a 70cm long cage. Syrians are solitary animals and only come together to mate, where as dwarfs can live in colonies providing they have been together since birth. You can get a few types of dwarf hamster.. russian dwarfs (a hybrid) winter whites, campbells, roborovski's, and chinese (although chinese aren't actually classified as a dwarf hamster). The smallest of the dwarfs are the roborovski dwarfs, they look like they have little eyebrows! Dwarfs can fight though and may need to be separated.

i have 2 female syrians, 2 male syrians, and one male russian dwarf who is a rescue :)

(sorry for my nerdy hamster talk!)

No not nerdy at all, very informative, thank you. I like the idea of hamsters which look like they have eyebrows, Roborovskis, I'm off to google to check them out.

Thanks R :)

Hello pleased to meet you..

I love hamsters. Had a few as a teenager. Ended up with them in bed with me a couple of times as the cage door wasn't hamster proof.

Good luck with your puppy.

Hello again. we are always happy to give second..third...maybe ever fourth chances here. You make the responses by what you post. I think 99% of posters here have been on the bad end of the HHO pitbulls but stick around long enough, post enough good posts, and you might be okay.

Welcome R
I love hamsters too :) i had a long haired one when i was young, it looked like a tribble from StarTrek, so funny running around, i had another not long before i moved over here but nobody could tell me the regs regarding hamster immigration and i didn't want to risk getting caught with a hamster in the glove compartment so reluctantly i let the people who bought my house keep her, don't give up on the forum, it can be hard sometimes but there is good advice to be found here. xx

Oh, I didn't realise you had a second thread. :)

I posted a reply about fishkeeping on your last one, hopefully you caught that.

Welcome again.

Hi Emma. I am VERY jealous of you living by the coast! I'm from a place very near the coast as well. I miss walking my dogs on the beach, and being able to get to the beach on my horse. I'm landlocked now in Northampton. I love living here, but OMG do I miss the beach!!
