Recently my girl (8yrs old) has been really lethargic. She is quite a chilled out horse anyway and will stand dozing while being groomed etc but something is different.....

She is so lazy and dis-interested in everything. When the horse next door tries to speak to her over the stable door she just stands with her head resting on the door where normally she would nip at him or squeal.

The vet has done a blood test for Cushings and I am due to get the results on Monday but if this is negative what else could it be?

Someone suggested she could be allergic to something?

Has she changed in how she is work wise? Have you owned her long and , if so has she done this before at this time of year?

Could be many things - not sure why vet would test for Cushings unless other symptoms? My first thought would be anaemia (easily treatable) or maybe just the fact it's still quite mild and maybe, getting a thicker coat means she's a bit warm?

I have had her 6 months and although she has never been a forward going horse she has definitely lost her oomph when schooling/hacking. She is walking so slow on hacks and the minute we get back to the stable she starts dozing before I have even removed her tack.

She has also been drinking a lot of water so I think that's why the vet is checking for Cushings, plus the blood test is free so said it was a good place to start...... Not that money would even come in to it, she will get whatever tests she needs.

Well, I would say she could be like this all the time this time of year, some horses are. Their coats are changing, in some cases the grass is not as good and they just lose that 'oomph' they may have had before. She may be sweating more if her coat's coming through hence the drinking more.
