I am sure it is summer somewhere in the UK. And it is DEFINITELY summer overaseas.

This is a Joe M weekend - he's here both Saturday and Sunday. Hurrah. I have 4 separate lessons with him! Lottie, one of the horses I'm schooling, Felix and Lottie again, with my sharer.
I will feedback in exhaustive detail no doubt. But over on the Joe thread so as not to bore too many people who aren't interested.

Plus I am on FOAL WATCH. Yikes. Not yet sleeping up there. but she can't be far off now. It is day 322 now. Felix was born in the early hours of day 322 so we are past that. Are mares more or less consistent or wildly variable with how long a pregnancy lasts? Super exciting but also very nerve wracking and stressful.

Have fun all, whatever you are doing.

Went to the local country park today for a few hours of hacking and the odd pop. Had a FAB time!

Got someone bringing hoof boots to try tomorrow, a fitting session. I love the Flex boots on the roads but they are rubbish in mud, no traction. I have been told that Scoot Boots are better. He is fine XC schooling barefoot but I want to do many miles over the winter and mud will feature. I am a tad excited as I've been doing his feet myself since September so it will be the first time a foot pro (she is also a trimmer) has seen them since.

Nothing at the weekend but back XC schooling on Monday.

Hello 👋
I haven’t been in here in ages… been in the depths of rehabbing horse from tendon injury.
Long story short, got to the stage of hacking him and totally bottled it! Sent him to a pro, he spent 6 weeks with them - out hacking, seeing the world and generally being back in consistent work.
Brought him home last night, hacked and went out again this evening.
So that’s a very long way of saying my weekend plans are… hacking 😂

We did things a bit backwards this week-

BD test riding clinic on Monday which was great, loads to work on before area festival.
Then Tuesday we had a super day at Lyneham Heath, SJ in the morning and XC in the afternoon. Dima was on FIRE for the afternoon and did everything, including some trickier lines, really easily and with lots of enthusiasm.

The reason it's a bit backwards is I'm off abroad from this Sunday with work :( I like being out there but I do miss my home and my pets- I already feel homesick and haven't even left yet!

I regularly left Scoot boots in the muddiest part of the bridlepath last winter. I actually thought I'd lost one for good until OH kindly went poking around in the boggy bit with a stick.

They must be better then the Flex ones then, as they are simply too slippery to ride in mud so wouldn't get lost. Today we will have a look. I am keen as the country park is a lovely place to ride but to get into the main part you have to walk down a long stony track so we need boots. But then, when we get to the other part, firstly I have to stay off mud, so many of the tracks are out, then I don't really like to jump in boots much so we are hampered. I'm hoping the Scoots will provide a solution and they say they have grip and can be jumped in so we will see.

Normal XC he is fine barefoot but I want to up the hacking. In the Flex boots we are limited to 2 hours as they damage the hair after that.

Nothing for me this weekend, i'm off camping ( 😩 ) the weather forecast is grim. Did have a whizz around our WH field last night as the grass had finally been cut and someone had put the jumps back to little crosses :D so we just did some fun, jump-off style practice which Buzz thoroughly enjoyed. Wish he was that quick when he actually went out to jump! He does love that big jumping field.
Have a good weekend everyone!

We're off to the English TREC championships on cannock chase this weekend , TPs second TREC comp
Saturday looking very very wet and windy , we'll probably be out for around 5/6 hours , depending how lost we get 🙃 going to pack all my waterproofs
TP is barefoot but hates wearing boots , there are quite a few stoney paths on the chase so I'll take his flex boots with me just incase he struggles , he did dyfnant forest ok barefoot in May and cannock chase is similar so fingers X

Have a great weekend everyone 😀

I've got flex boots for TP , he's always been barefoot but I had boots for him as I wanted to up our distance out
He gets about 2k into a ride with them on and starts stomping his feet , I take them off and he goes back to normal , walking out lovely
I've never tried them in mud but feel much better with him barefoot if it is muddy anyway
Will be interested to see how you get on with other boots , I don't want to keep buying different ones and find he just doesn't like wearing boots !

The first Flex boots bought had that effect on BH too. I found it was because they were too large. They didn't slip or fall off but you could see his foot was set back somewhat. He now has a smaller wide version on the fronts and that cured that problem. I guess a larger one moved the breakover point. The short ones are hard to get on but he moves better. They are lethal in slick conditions though. He slipped a fair bit then eventually fell over and I had the faff of having a rucksack with me to put them on and off. Far too faffy!

I like that the Scoots are minimal. But, I do worry that they may rub as they are not as soft as the Flex ones. The Scoots do look to have better grips.

Good luck with the championships!

Exciting plans AE! Very excited to see new Amber foal.

I've been struggling with my back/SI spasm this week so haven't done much and am heading to a therapist tonight. However the worst of it has eased off and managed a ride on Pebbles last night, so I might try to take her xc schooling tomorrow. Other than that will just be playing with some more in hand work with Hetty the newbie.

Have you tried Renegade Vipers? My horses have hacked many hours in them and no one has complained. Fin sometimes does long hacks. 4+ hours (Hermosa hasn't built up to that yet but has done up to 2). No rubs, and they lift their feet when you walk towards them holding boots. I wouldn't gallop or jump on slippery mud (in anything), but I have never had a horse slip in the boots on any footing, including mud, at walk and trot.

I didn't like the Scoots as I found the plastic bit at the back dug into their heel bulbs. They were fine for short hacks when I was transitioning Gypsum to barefoot, but they were not happy when wearing them for longer than half an hour. However, it simply might not have been the right fit for my horse, as many people swear by them.
