My Lusitano mare came with a hogged mane of about 1-2 inches in length. Three months on and it is well and truly past the Mohican stage but we have now entered the Bog Brush stage. It's driving me crazy. I am determined to let it grow out. Does anybody have pics of various stages of growing out a hogged mane, with time frames pretty please? :)

Not great photos as I don't have a current one but this is Prima in early August, with about 2 months of growth.

And this is September....still a mohican but getting longer...

By the end of October it had finally flattened down and she had a proper forelock again! Here she is looking v annoyed in the rain!

Sorry have nothing useful to add but just wanted to say I am very excited to see the pictures that will pop up! I have been considering hogging one of my horses manes as it is just so thick and she cannot stand to have it pulled. But I will wait to see this images before jumping in with the clippers!

My Sec D came with hogged mane. It took ages to grow out and, as it's so thick, it just seemed to grow vertically for miles before finally flopping over. At one stage, I actually wondered if that was why previous owners had hogged it in the first place. It seemed to defy gravity! :)

Ok.. I think I have managed to dig out some pics of my mare.. First one was the day she arrived, and second one two months later, a bit flattened by the snow and considerably dirtier than when she arrived! If I can stay away from the clippers and resist temptation it will hopefully be a decent length in another few months..

Don't have any photos but my girl usually has a long hog (Mohawk). If you want it to flop over quickly a rug with a neck will do the trick! I've now hogged her completely cos her winter turnout with neck was turning her 2 inch mane into flowing locks
