Mini Me has just turned 7.... ability outweighs her age....
This is where the problem lies lol..... She is due to go out to a jump cross show next weekend which is great,, but fences look big - on paper its 60-70's but judging from todays pics is a full up 70cms course... Now they have jumped that in the arena & xc but as she hasnt jumped a course of fences in a row that height am worried ...... Mini Me is gung ho & wants to do it but I am not sure.... HELP! should I just let Mini me kick on?am finding it so hard to strike the right balance between sensible parent versus horse rider mentality lol.

At 7 Al was doing about that on her ponies, walk it and make sure she knows that if she doesn't want to jump a fence she doesn't have to and let her decide. We didn't know it wasn't what most little kids were jumping because Al's rally group at PC had her and 5 other girls the same age all jumping that height.

My little sister's the same, fearless lol!!! Second the above, let her do it! Just let her know there's no pressure to jump stuff on the day if she doesn't want to, and just miss things out if they look scary :) Make sure you get pics!

Maybe do a course at home first ? if you have enough equipment ? So she can get a feel for it.

It`s very hard, as their ability needs to go hand in hand with their confidence, and if their confidence gets a battering it can all go down hill pretty fast. It can be so hard finding the right balance. Trusting the pony is the main thing, and if you do, and can let her try a good course at home, and she`s still up for it, then give it a go ;)

Thanks for the reply's. Mini me has never ever not wanted to jump anything but good idea to tell her she can miss out whatever she doesn't feel comfortable with. . We are going to get as much practice in the field during week but will depend on ground:( off to stock up on rescue remedy, may chug a bottle of it before we set off next week ..

Thanks a mil, its hard seeing her just want to kick on getting out and about, they just grow up so quickly. hunt on now for purple boots for the pony as mini me is adament on matchy matchy for the day lol, what's she going to be like in couple years ! fQUOTE=JFTD;12154113]Go for it! Good luck :)[/QUOTE]

Oooh, how big is the pony?? I know someone who may be getting rid of a pair of front brushing boots and OR boots, they're glittery and purple :)
And i would also let her go for it :) If both her and pony are capable of it then just let them have a go and have fun :)

Omg, purple glittery boots mini me would be in heaven:) pony is 12.1.....

A dressage diva who won't terrify you with her high jump antics? Seriously though good luck to all of you.
