Hi, I have been looking for a job in the horse world and have come across an apprentice vacancy as I was hoping too. It states that the applicant must be able to ride to level 3 standards already... Can anyone clarify what that would imply? Sorry but I haven't really got a clue, I just have my lessons on my own horse now and have no idea what level my riding is at!

I would contact the people advertising and ask them to clarify.

Is the apprenticeship working towards a particular qualification? In which case level 3 may refer to level 3 in that particular system.

When i was an apprentice, level 3 riding was to the same standard as BHS stage 3 - schooling a horse , discussing the horses way of going and showing an improvement. Working in all 3 paces, showing different school movements and lateral work as well as staying in balance and harmony with and without stirrups. Schooling over courses up to 3'3 and riding xc at 2'6-2'9

^^^ This. I did my BHS 3 years ago and my NVQ level 3 a couple of years ago. Only real difference was I knew the horses I was doing my NVQ on as we were assessed at home. I would guess they are after somebody who is able to improve basic flat work, and jump up to a meter without falling off or socking the horse one in the mouth through lack of balance.
if you get an interview see if you can get a sit on a few different horses before hand so you are used to sitting on something that isn't your own and can quickly asses the horse and work out a plan to help improve its way of going so you look super efficient ;0 Good luck xx
