Ok, so i am 19 so does this mean i can do an LGV but not a HGV yet?

Im in my gap year and think it would be worth while to get a qualification that means I can drive the horse in a 7.5 tonne lorry, rather than our little 3.5 tonne one.

Thanks in advance im just a bit confused as ive searched on some sites and it says you have to be 21 for both but Im SURE ive read on here that you can be over 18...?

I think there is a young driver scheme - the DSA website should tell you. I had someone working for me last year who had done his HGV at 19 as he was going to be employed in the horse industry, so it is possible.

thanks guys, ill have a look for the young driver schemes.

Forget the term HGV it went out with Noah's Arc. LGV category C1,C,or C+E. The theory test is the same for all categories. You can take a C1 test aged 18 once you have passed your theory test. You need to be 21 to take your category C Test, then when you recieve your new LGV cat C license then you can apply for C+E to drive the largest artic's.
If you are 21 or over it is not worth doing C1, go straight for Category C. The young driver scheme which is done inhouse at large companies is being scrapped from 2009.
