Can anyone clarify the following in terms of horse boxes:

If the vehicle has a maximum authorised mass, which exceeds 3.5 tonnes, but not 7.5 tonnes then a category C1 licence is needed.

Does this mean if I want a horse box I need to take another test?

If the maximum authorised mass exceeds 7.5 tonnes then a category C licence is needed - know this as getting a HGV licence.

Between 3.5 and 7.5 tonnes it depends on when you got your normal car driving licence.

If you passed your driving test before 1 January 1997 you don't need to take any further test/licence to drive boxes up to 7.5 tonnes. For example I'm 34 and I can drive pur 7.5tonne 21foot box on my car licence.

If you passed your test after 1 Jan 1997 then you need to get a C1 licence.

Anything over 7.5 tonnes and everyone needs an HGV licence
