Anyone recommend what to buy? Going to start the process in the next few months, what resources are worth having?

Had a look online but there's quite a lot of choice.

Have just sent off for forms and know where to get a cheap medical locally (under £50), aim is to do theory in the next 6 months or so then practical training after. Currently drive an old 3.5t which is fine for my 14.2hh but when the old box gets too knackered will upgrade to a 5-6t hopefully :)

Not a confident driver at all (took 5 attempts to get car test as had such bad nerves, although that was 14 years ago) so only doing C1 so can learn in a large van type rather than bigger lorry. I know I could do C instead but C1 seems much more realistic for me and as I only have ponies really can't see the need for bigger :)

Any tips welcome - am based in North Bucks so plenty of choice for training

To be honese I would go straight for your class c - you will drive in a smallish box type anyway, and once you get use to the 8 gears you will be fine.

Look for the theory for large goods vehicles book and you may need to get the hazard perception dvd - this is the bit i struggled with - i got 99 out of 100 on my theory but i really struggled with the hazard perception bit as being an experianced driver you tend to have looked, reacted before the machine expects you to press the button - i got bared from 2 quesitons for inapporpriate mouse use ! - still makes me giggle - but i passed both sections on the same day.

With your training make sure you get a good firm - there are some right rip of merchants

Thanks for that :)

Yes, there are a few places that offer C1 in ambulance type vehicles. Not decided on who yet, taking my time to get some quotes etc. As we are very central there is quite a bit of choice.

I'm not in any hurry as currently laid up on crutches, just thought I'd get the ball rolling with provisional and theory. Going to be some time before can drive anything again :(
