My OH thought he would suprise me and has got me a 3 yr ols bitch. She's lived in a farm and has been outside alot and is very timid and not used to walking on a lead.

She has settled in well and only had a couple of accidents (thankfully no.1's!) I've been lifting her as soon as she goes to pee and putting her outside and not making a fuss, is there anything else i should be doing?

Also with regard to the training her to walk on a lead at 3 yrs old will i have a long hard slog infront of me, and would clicker training help?

Any info much appreciated. And also looking for name ideas !

Being a lhasa apso lead training might be quite difficult for a little while. They are intelligent dogs and learn fast but can be stubborn. Dont let her get her own way e.g.crossing the road where she wants to, lying downor turning around.

Clicker training is great! would highly recommend it... Is she food motivated? that makes it easier

re: weeing. Sounds like you are doing everything exactly right - does she know to go for a wee outside when you let her out normally? Can you anticipate when she might need to go and keep taking her out at regular intervals?

re: names don't, whatever you do, call her biscuit. There is a very good reason why - in fact avoid food stuffs in general.. How about trixie, millie, honey? Or do you want some more unusual? How come she doesn't have a name?

Congratulations on getting her

Hiya, I actually have 18 lhasas, i show and occasionally breed them, they are not the easiest breed in that they are stubborn, and will not do what you want just because you want them to!
On the plus side they are loyal, devoted, IF theyve been bred and reared correctly are fabulous little people with wonderful characters, the key to training them is to let them think its all their idea!
However having come from a farm she would probably have missed out on normal socialising so id take it dead slowly, dont go pulling her around on a lead or she just will not walk but will lie down and dig her heels in!
Bribery is the key to a lhasa, every time!
They are generally pretty easy to house train, make a big fuss each time she goes out and she will pick it up dead easy, good luck with her!

The toilet training thing seems to be better no accidents for two days now. And the walking on lead when she lies down I dont pull her I just call her and encourage her then praise when she does come forward. She does seem very clever, and totally adorable.

Sophie, you are welcome to contact me if you need any help with your girl, decent breeders try to help one another and anyone else who needs help, this is a lovely breed which sadly often gets in the wrong hands.
Im glad the toilet training is coming along and also the lead training, keep up the good work, best wishes!
