Don't know if it has been raised before but in Your Horse this month there is an interview with labour, Conservative and Lib Dem where Tim Farron (Shadow Secretary of State for the enviroment, food and rural affairs) of the lib Dems is quoted as saying;

"I think the ban has been counterproductive as an animal welfare measure. Perversly it has led to more cruelty to foxes as they are being controlled by less effective means like shooting and trapping. I would support a replacement of the act with a broader piece of welfare legislation and allow hunting with hounds under licence, with strict welfare conditions"

I have not seen this widely reported in the wider press.

he might!!! but you will find most of the others in his party will have wildly differing views... And I think you will find mostly against.........

The problem is they well know that people are voting conservative because of hunting (because, lets face it, little else differentiates between the parties!) and liberals may want to appeal as the other pro hunting alternative.

But at the same time, they know some people won't vote at all for a pro hunting party, so they're keeping it quiet.

EG - if H&H, Horse and Rider, Shooting and Conservation and Hounds all said "liberals will repeal hunting act", but the Daily Mail, Sun, Telegraph all said "liberals will keep hunting act" - it increases their voter appeal!!!

Sneaky. But then no one is really playing fair this year!

We have Lembit Opik (lib-dem) as our MP, and although a bit of a prat, does support repeal. He even attended our puppy show a couple of years ago - with a 'cheeky' girl in tow, who promptly got jumped on by several hounds -very entertaining!!
I wish the hunting act would come up in these televised debates.........
