Sam and I had a 'Horse Dancing' lesson this morning. We had a go at some Liberty stuff. OMG it made me feel really emotional to have him want to be with me, rather than investigating everything in the arena. ( We did allow him 5 minutes at the start) I am not riding him at the moment as still recovering from a hip replacement and he is fairly green, so doing all sorts to build up our relationship. This took us one stage further and has given me something to try at home when I get a chance. Definitely going to go back for some more lessons. Who says I have to ride until I feel ready!

It sounds like you had a great time. I always mean to try some liberty work, maybe I will make it a goal this winter although my horse (5 1/2 yo) is so nosy I think I will struggle to keep his attention! Seeing people work with horses at liberty always reminds me of how much more is possible than what most of us ask for.

I went to a clinic advertised as 'Dancing with your horse' sadly for the organiser I was the only one who had booked, so got a good 45mins to an hour. We were in an enclosed school. Decided to do Liberty as something a bit different. Pony was let off headcollar and allowed 5/10 mins to have a mooch around, including a roll or 2 and kicking up his heels a bit. Then I walked passed him and he followed. We walked around together sometimes he was one side of me, some tines the other and sometimes behind. After a bit I went jogging around and he came too! It was fun, emotional and incredibly humbling because he wanted to join me. I am definitely going to try more at home, and see how we get on in the outdoor arena where there are more distractions.

Sam is only 6 and I've really only had him for about 10 months ( long story)! Definitely easier indoors or in a round pen.

I have done liberty with Arabi since he was a baby his always loved it I can't do it in the school I use now though.

I sometimes do the same concept but keep the line on he still enjoys it, he gets quite excited and gets a bit playful with his half rears and throwing himself around which is quite nice considering his 19 now 😆
