Saw a critter on Wooley's hair tonight, small, brown, wingless insect. it was creeping about, trying to hide, I squashed it pronto.Making him swish his tail and kick. Could it be a louse? Chucked on some louse powder. Anyone recommend a lice buster? Horrible feeling it could be lice!! Eek! God, what next.

Was it flat, and a little bit like a tiny crab??? #

If so it could have been a Ked!!! (think a deer ked) worth a google.

They send horses ballistic, and they are really hard to find as they move so quickly.

Sounds likely..... lice make them itch, keds do their heads in... turned merlin from a donkey to a raving looney... so long as he was in the sun, if he went indoors it stopped creeping around his coat and he calmed down.

I have never known him to kick out (except at clippers) and he was double barrelling, bucking, kicking out, biting his quarters etc, absolutely beside himself.

Two other horses that I know have had them have had to be sedated till it was found!!

Just looked it up! Could well have been. Wooley was going mad, kicking his back legs, he was tied up on the yard, and swishing his tail like blazes. Lots of deer about here. He did this when he came in from the field, then went in the stable, quietend down later came out, tied up and started going ballistic!! Or its just plain old lice!! Many thanks
