Lice!!

When i was up at my horses today i was touching our little yearling fillies and just happened to look threw one of their thick coats and i came across a few lice

How do i get rid of them?

lice powder?
special lice treatment? shampoo etc?


are they outside? if not youll be looking at having to get rid of bedding to ensure that its not infested in there aswell

Louse powder!!! not a big deal should clear it up in a few days

I have only just taken them in as i can not get near one of them.

They were kinda a rescue case and are or should i say one is very very timid and i can not get near her

fingers crossed a good dosing of lice powder will clear it up in both of them.

least itll give you time to handle them even if it is a crash course for them

Are they due for worming soon? My pony had lice, and the wormer killed them.

Coopers is excellent for lice, mites and also dilute as a fly spray.

i have just given them panacur equin gaurd a few weeks ago.

as i have no idea of what their worming was like probably nil as they were bl00dy thin.

Just don't start feeling itchy yourself, always happens you know, you see lice or fleas next thing is YOU start feeling itchy and start scratching.

theres some stuff called deosect may of spelt it wrong.. but its good stuff.

Be careful when choosing louse powder, I discovered last year that many are only a louse repellant, not louse killer!!! Had to get the vet out to jab in the end

Got rid of the little blighters tho!!

This is not going to be of much help cause I cant remember what I used, but a few years ago one of my shetties had lice and tried alsorts to get rid of them, vet had to come out to do vacs so got him to have a look and he prescribed something for cattle (not licenced to use of horses) but it worked a treat all you had to do was siringe down the middle of their back.

That would be Ivermectin, probably.

Permethrin is the active ingredient required to deal with lice. There are lots of products out there with that in.

I have used 'Spot-on' with good results.
