So I lovingly nipped out in my lunchbreak to buy midas a lickit for his stable...just the standard one that hangs from rope. rushed up to the yard all excited about giving him his present, carefully selected the best spot in his stable to hang it from and left yard with a warm glow feeling like a caring mummy.

two hours pass and get a text from YO saying it's all gone! well that's f-ing gratitude for you!!!! :)

I don't buy them as they are full of sugar. I buy the Himalayan rock salt and my mare only has it when she needs it, it last quite a while.

Mine does this too, spoilt pony!

I bought him a cherry one not so long ago (I love cherry flavoured things) and he didn't touch it! Had to give it to another livery. Very odd as he devours everything else in sight!

My mares can devour a lickit in around half an hour max!!
Won't touch salt/ licks, obviously not sinful enough!.... Guess it's like offering us a lettuce leaf or a choccy?!!
Happy medium they do like the horselix tubs... Still seriously sugary in the form of molasses but disguised by the healthy mention of garlic or respiratory on the label :P

I think 33% sugar in some of the lickits, tub things. I'd put out plain salt block or himylian salt, or if don't like to lick (salt licks were designed for cows with scratchy tongues rather than smooth) then loose salt in a bucket.

I put out loose salt in one of those tyre material buckets and interesting to see different usuage at different times.

Wow!! 33%?? I should read labels more!! I don't tend to buy any licks anymore anyway but defo worth bearing in mind!!

My pony chomps straight throught them even thought its in a lickets holder! Waste of money for me so will be buying a big horslyx stable lick instead and selling the licket holder.

Fab idea! My pony appears to be scared of swedes though....(don't ask!)

:D:D:D

The Arab went at swedes like Jaws (until his teeth got so crap that he can't have them any more) but The Tank used to look at me like I was trying to poison him and shuffled off back to his haynet :o.

I bought him one of those big rock salts instead (lovingly lugged it round Your Horse Live!) and put it in stable last night - hoping it hasn't all gone when I get to yard this evening :S He did seem to like it though!!

Don't think I will bother replacing the lickit holder with another lickit! Although a friend has suggested getting one of the cereal type ones that are harder to eat - I'm quite impressed that he hasn't eaten the actual plastic holder - I'm beginning to learn very quickly the personality traits of my new Welsh Sec D and it seems to be focused on - "Hey there is that food?....Are you sure it's not edible?.....Yep..that was definitley edible.." :D

Two hours???

The quickest time mine eats it is 5 minutes and its gone unless i freeze it first he knows how to get round the idea of licking them

I hang swedes on my lickit holder, I half it then use an apple corer to make the hole :)
Also used to hang my daughters ponies licks in the middle of the stable... This resulted in him resembling a psychedelic zebra after a few hours of chasing it around!! ; :P

My ex-racer threw a wobbly when I put one in his stable and then stood in the corner trembling with his eyes closed

If I give him a swede he looks a me as if I'm trying to poison him. But his ball filled with pony nuts sends him into a trance of bliss

I bought my youngster a tongue twister for the long winter months if he has to stay in as he hates things hanging in his stable. Still hasnt touched it....except for banging his a**e on it and knocking the likits out :(

I was really surprised, my daughter got her pony one and its lasted a week! It gets smaller daily but it's hung where he definitely can't hold it still against anything.

I think they should be renamed bite-its rather than likits where my boys concerned! They rarely last longer than a day with him if I put one in his tounge twister toy....the consequence the following day is the equivalent to giving a 2yr old an ice lolly full of E numbers, they make him act like an idiot and be naughty!

Mine were brought one each for Christmas.... Very mixed reviews. Freddie chomped and Likit in 3 pieces.... Mars, licks it then have to split it fr him as he is old and teeth are not that brill. Pearl nibbled a bit but not very struck. Daisy not bothered at all...

Freddie then snaffled all the extra bits.... Then got high on the sugar...

my boy has a knack of eating the likit on the tongue twister by putting his front teeth on the top the outside of the ball and grinding his bottom front ones across the likit , thus it lasts 10 min
