Sorry but Im going to have a rant! But why do people lie on adverts?!

Recently this horse has gone up for sale on our yard because owners have had enough of her bad behaviour .Ive looked at the advert and its just lies!!!! Its like false advertisment, well it is!

Number 1...A perfect allrounder... this horse is green as hell and cant get into canter without a good buck!
Number 2...Has a good jump.... yeah if you want to be thrown off in the process!
Number 3...sound on the roads... yep if theres nothing on the road... alone or in a group... well you cant bring another horse near her unless your horse is ready for a couple of back shoes in the face!
Number 4...well mannerd.... WELL MANNERD?!?! This is what peed me off the most!!! What horse refuses to come in, swings its back end round at the speed of lightening ready to give you a good kicking or charges at you with its teeth showing like its some sort of dog and refuses to be taken into the school will just stand and not move, or when does move bites you whilst walking with it, or when mounting will buck as soon as your on????

Honestly some people wind me up!!! Im dreading the day someone comes up for a trail ride and end up being bucked off!!

I know you dont want to put the bad points on an advert, but just plain lies is not acceptable, a few little white lies but not the whole advert!

Rant over!

Not as bad as someone who sold a trailer 'in excellent condition' when they wouldn't use it to transport their horse after I told them the floor was rotten!

Its all about perception what you class as a fault another person might not, so To the present owner the horse mat be an allrounder, good jump etc.

Only messing but when I worked in ireland, i learnt very quickly that its safer to say you are a novice rider(im not) cos what they called quiet was most defo not!!!

I just find it crazy, the reason their selling it is because they cant handle it!! Its a danger, the few times ive been in the school at the same time it has always tried to kick my gelding whos soft as muck!! Im fuming!! I know its none of my business, but can you imagine if someone went to try it out and ended up being bucked off worse case senario... breaking a bone or even neck or back all because theyve lied!!

And for the transport wagtail and think thats disgusting, people should be prosecuted (i hope ive spelt that right) if their selling things that are advertised incorrectly.

Hopefully when I start looking for my own horse next year (ive got one on full loan atm) i will not come accross one of these lieing adverts, most likley will though :(

There are plenty of people out there who will write utter rubbish in their adverts. I've seen one today that I know, for sale because the horse has problems but you wouldn't guess it from the advert or the price!!!

I hope they realise they could end up in court if someone is injured when they come to try it out. Look at those people who were giving a horse away on behalf of a friend due to its issues who are currently going through a lengthy court case.

Oh my word! And so they should be taken to court of they are willing to sell a dangerous horse (well I personally think it is) and try and pass it off as a 'well mannered all rounder' and something does happen, then I thing they should be took to court.

Just a quick question, what if that horse actually caused damage to my horse whilst ive been riding my horse, what would you do? Say if it caused an injury? Because we have had so many near misses recently with it

I agree, I don't know how they think they'll get away with it - anyone but a supremely inexperienced buyer with a hell of a lot of money will just walk away!! Plus if the horse is a danger (and has hurt people) how they can ever sell as a perfect all rounder is beyond me. Do these people not have a concious?

Makes me feel lucky that the horse I bought last year does pretty much what was said on the tin!

Lies on adverts are so bad, when I went looking I lost count of the number of horses I had to discount because they were absolutely nothing like the advert - except perhaps the colour.

On the other hand when I went to sell/loan our pony I was absolutely truthful - I wanted her to go to someone who would love her as we did - I specified every single thing that could possibly be construed as a fault. Due to a previous laminitis issue I made it perfectly clear that she would need restricted grazing/feed at the appropriate time and due to an accident in a trailer before we had her that she would not travel in a trailer. I also put in the advert that according to our vet she would probably NOT pass a 5* vetting.

We ended up letting her go on trial to a family who we (thought) knew well, who knew us and the pony's history. They had her for a fortnight, then returned her to us lame, She was returned because - she had a history of laminitis, she failed a 5* vetting and wouldn't travel in a trailer!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I will leave you to guess what I said.......

She is now on permanent loan to a wonderful home where she is part ornament/part happy hacker. She is treated like royalty and will be there to the end of her days. We go to visit every couple of months and she always looks at us as if to say - 'Don't you think you are taking me away from here - I've got them trained just the way I want them'

It's a really tricky one, I'm trying to sell at the moment, and have been completely truthful both in my horse's advert and when people have come to try my horse.

He is in no way dangerous and I've had small children ride him round. I had one couple tell me they wanted him, make an offer and then backed out even after he passed a vetting. One of them is now stalking me on this forum, so selling is not without its risks too, I'm finding. What one person doesn't see as an issue, another person thinks is the end of the world. But no horse is perfect I guess.

I guess an advert is to generate interest in the long run, so like another poster has said, you don't want to be making the most of the horses' bad points, but on the other hand, you don't want to be putting people at risk either, but having said that, if the horse is as OP has said, they don't have many good points to go on!

That made me laugh. I went to visit one I sold to a home some distance away. She looked at me just the same way and I went home smiling about my canny mare.

The ads that get me are the 'private sellers' who turn out to be small time dealers with laughable prices. When the advertised horse turns out to be a pig in a poke, they just happen to have a few more the same. Sad eyed horses bought from market that haunt you after you walked away.

I honestly couldnt beleive it when i read the advert?! The 'well mannard' bit just wound me up, i remember last summer when one of the girls tried to catch her, it ended up with the whole yard going up to try and catch her, numerous ropes and all the horses taken out of the feild she was that bad.

Who ever buys this horse must be mad! Im just going to watch and see who comes up to see her and just wait to see what happens!! I think the word irresponsible comes to mind!
