speak to your vet who will be able to tell you who the representitive is for the joint measuring board in your area and they will arrange an appiontment . you need to have shoes removed and horse will be measure and documentation posted to you. this lasts for 1 year and you represent horse the following year again shoes of and then you are issued with a lifelong certific

Here is the link to ALL of the JMB approved measurers broken down by region, Do you think you know how big she is ?? You might need to be creative to meet the hieght - Lina has a life cert from before I got her to say she is 158 but she is bigger than that really, they can request to come back an measure at anypoint in the horses future ie show season when she might be bigger.

Don't know about the showing side of things but some vets are registered to height measure, you will have to have 2 measurements done at about £70 a time. Your 2nd measurement is the LHC and i think they have to be 7 before they are done (LHC) the 1st can be done earlier.

on horsegossip forum there is some one for JMB i would register on there and pm them. as they'll be ablt to tell you all you will need to know.

Why would you be creative to meet the height? if your horse measures 160 why put it in a 158 class, surely that is cheating? In junior bsja you see 'full up' 148's, so obviously overheight its ridiculous, if everyone played fair we wouldn't see people overfiling feet, dehydrating or starving their horses just to get them into the desired height range. (You may guess this is a slight bug bear, sorry)

i do not intend to starve or over file my cobs feet i was just wondering if i needed a lhc to compete at bigger shows, i measure him at 15h so am not over height, i do see ur point tho as i no of a pony that was left out all last winter un rugged to get measured and now looks over height altho has a certificate!

There is a cob on my yard that is over 15hands yet he has a 14.2 lhc

present owner thinks its hilarious and would never abuse it

jrp sorry just re read my last post i did come across abit abrupt didnt mean it too, i totally agree that some people do abuse lhc..... x

I agree with you - but it happens in the showing world .I'm not sure how having a cob that is really 15.1 and a half is cheating when you are judging manners and way of going etc but a diff ball game for jumping

My height cert isn't worth much to me anyway as I'm over 25 I can't do intermediate working hunter anymore I have to go in with the big boys now!

There was a horse on my old yard which had a LHC stating he was 15hh. He TOWERED over my mare who ok, has really high withers and comes out as not quite 15.2hh. I always wondered what the original owners had to do/pay to get him measured so small!!
