Worked out comp dates to get us set up for first ODE at aston in mid september.
18/8 Dressage at Onley (Eve)
21/8 SJ Onley
28/8 SJ Moulton
4/9 Dressage (BD) Moulton
11/9 Hunter Trial Gawcott
18/9 ODE Aston

Somewhere in there I need to fit in an XC schooling session at Aston before the HT at Gawcott.
Also need a couple of sessions with my dressage trainer.

Just doing dressage or SJ is so much simpler.

Yep i know that feeling!

Currently trying to do the same - haven't been able to get out properly since our last run at Moreton on 20th June so have been trying to fit everything in the last couple of weeks but i think we are on track!
Dressage lesson a week ago, XC schooing @ T'down was brilliant Saturday, SJ lesson Sunday was positive and Dressage on grass on Thursday, final jump at home Friday, hack Saturday, ODE Sunday!

There's a team chase outside Southam on 28/8. Would that count as XC schooling ;) ;)

But you are having three times the fun!:D

I used to event - as high as you could go as a junior in a foreign land (BE Nov equivalent, I think). Last year was the closest I got to going to an event in 22 years. Close as in we talked about it, a lot. We did some dressage (quite successfully) and some low level unaffiliated show jumping (with marginally less success than the stressage as I've forgotten how - knowledge is there but applying it is a bit wishywashy). But life got in the way when I finally found someone to take us XC schooling. I was hoping to do something very low level this year now my little Connie is actually mine. But instead I took her shoes off to sort out a niggle that was annoying me and not helping her. It has been a long 5 months but she's finally sound. We're both too fat and unfit to think about doing anything before the end of this season.

I would give my eye teeth to have your dilemma.:p:p:p:p

That's why I've decided to stick to dressage for a bit. The pressure of trying to fit everything in around a stressful full time job was taking the enjoyment out of it for me. No doubt I'll miss it eventually though!

No it wouldn't. She needs to be out there on her own in cold blood. Not having fun hoolying around.

That I can understand. I've wanted to get back in to eventing for some years. However, I hope the experience gained in dressage will be a bonus.

That I can understand. I had to be in Devon for a 10am meeting yesterday which is 284 miles from me. Finished at 4pm and decided to drive home rather than stop over as that would make riding today more complicated. 568 miles driving and 6 hour meeting in one day just because I need to ride horse. Dedication or lunacy? You decide.

Back in the day when I did lots of ode I didn't prepare or go out really before!! The horse was always fit enough for the job and we did very very well. He was a lovely boy tho. Nowadays I stick to mainly dressage with a bit of sj thrown in.

I couldn't do it, I had enough issues fitting in training and shows, both time and money wise, for just sj. I think it gets easier as the horse gains more experience but at the start its non stop.

Same, plus a full-time MSc, alongside working one day a week plus riding two more horses regularly.

I've decided September is going to be our next event as I just can't fit any more in for the next few weeks!!!!

Also need to go car shopping ASAP as mine has died!!!

Roll on next Friday when my exams are over!

I promise I was joking :)

I think unfortunately fitting everything in is why a lot of people end up with one weak phase because it is so hard to do it all and squeeze your daily life in there somewhere

Haha with my first ever ode coming up this weekend, I've been feeling the same. We went to camp this weekend, so did all 3 thank goodness but I still feel rather unprepared!

You're making life much harder for yourself by including any dressage in there. I'd think it would be most sensible to ignore it as much as you can until the day of the ODE and then it wouldn't get in your way quite as much.
