Hi all,

Horse was diagnosed with a suspensory ligament lesion.

It’s a lesion on the lateral side of the foot.
If anyone has any experience with these types of injuries, please tell me what I can do to help him as well as how long did it take to heal as well as rehab.

Thank you,

Inside the foot? No question, your most likely chance of getting your horse sound is a barefoot rehab, even if the horse is already barefoot.

Honestly, i’m not too sure. The vet doesn’t speak english well, he will come in less than 2 weeks again to look at his ligament again. I will ask him then.
Horse has shoes, vet commented that his feet are well balanced and the farrier does a good job. I will ask him about being barefoot, but the footing in our yard is absolutely awful.

Where abouts on the leg was the horse scanned? You should be able to request the written notes from the vet so you can get a bit more clarity

whole lower leg? if that’s how you say it in english. i know it’s his suspensory ligament. the vet is turkish so i think his notes will not be that grammatically correct. i will look on the internet and maybe attach some photos

M&E is this the same horse as the unhappy one with hives? Where have you got to on those issues?

If this tendon problem is in the leg not the foot then box rest will probably be needed, but with how unhappy he's been that's probably the last thing he needs for his state of mind.

Yes this is the same one with hives. Gotten to the bottom of that issue (sort of). Found grade 1 ulcers, he’s on omeprazole gastogard now. Now this suspensory ligament, showed no signs of pain until the vet came and done extreme flexion tests on him. No swelling, no heat, just an uneven gait.
Honestly, i feel absolutely awful for him

I would definitely contact the vet and ask for the write up. It makes a massive difference where the issue is, current details are far too sketchy to give any advice, we could be talking at cross purposes. If it was diagnosed from a flexion test I can’t see how it could be in the foot?

The problem is his suspensory ligament a little lower under the knee. i don’t exactly know what part that is 🤦‍♀️ im slowly forgetting english, sorry for any inconveniences.

strangers on the internet can’t give you any useful advice with such vague details. I'd recommend going back to your vet for a firm diagnosis and their recommendation for a rehabilitation plan

Hi all, long due update. Horse has hyperextended his ligament (not sure if it’s the correct phrase in english). he had prp therapy and is going into his second month of box rest and in hand walking. vet says he will make a full recovery and i have nothing to worry about. hoping to be back on board in 2-4 weeks.
