my friends looking at a pony for herself but it has been on box rest twice at different times with both front legs.
the check ligament went ?
is this likely to be of higher risk of happening again ?
and will it suffer stiffness or arthritus sooner ?
pony is 14 yrs old i think ?
i think its way over priced and should be free ?
as its a vet bill waiting to happen ....or am i wrong ?
thanks

The problem you have with ligaments is that when they go they are always going to be a weak spot - they don't repair to the same strength as original (if that makes sense?) The structure of the repaired ligament is more stiff and liable for breaking again - so you have to be ultra careful when going through the rehab process and then sometimes the horse's use is limited, ie it can't jump or do fast work etc.
I'd get your friend to speak to her vet about the pony to be honest

mmm thats what i thought the owners are back jumping her etc and said their vet didnt advise on future ?????
just said her vet said its fitness level needs to be built up slower than a pony without this problem ?
would you purchased said pony ?

Our JA pony pulled a check ligament 4 years ago and is out jumping BSJA and winning loads. She had 18mths off (had a foal) and then came back into work. The scan showed the ligament had repaired well and apart from not jumping her on bad ground - which none of ours would do anyway - she's fine.
