The horse is fine. His Shires has kept out all the rain today.

I, however, am soaked. I want/need a no fill coat that actually keeps the rain out. Shower proof is not enough. I want genuine water proof. But I don't want to be all plasticy either.

Has anyone actually got one of these mythical coats? Do they even exist? Please advise!

What's your budget? North Face are amazing, but not very cheap - so waterproof though and last. I have a Mac in a Sac I got in Scotland in a mad rush about 5 years ago and it's been really good :) Other than that, Musto are good but not cheap and my John Whitaker and Mountain Horse are still going strong after 3/4 years, even if they're a little short in the sleeves since I've grown :D xx

Wax smells though :(

Northface could be an option. My bro sells outdoor stuff so maybe could get me discount. I could get a nice goretex one.

I was kind of hoping for a nice horsey one though

I've just bought the, AFAIK, only Gore-tex riding jacket - The Musto Showjumping jacket. No idea if its any good though as the sleeves are so damn long I've had to get them adjusted and its still at the sewing shop, I probably should have just sent it back and bought a walking coat! ;)

You could get a kagoul. You know the ones that fold up into a little bag, the fabric ones.

I bought one for beating a few years ago and it was fabulous, the only fully waterproof thing ive ever worn that didnt make me sweat.

I've just bought a Lazy Jacks coat as I was also looking for something waterproof but without any lining as I just want to be dry, not boiling hot! It was about £35 and has kept me dry so far - even in the hail storm we had yesterday! Windproof too...

One more vote for North Face. I know what you mean - part of me would love it to have a ponio logo  - but three years ago I got one of their waterproof jackets that came with a separate fleece that zips inside it to form a winter coat (can't find it online but was £150 down to £100. Pricier side but SO worth it, good investment). The shell is heavy duty, comfortable, washes brilliantly and keeps me dry without being too hot. Stick the fleece inside it and it's the best I've ever had for winter - I've got Horseware and Dublin Michelin-man duvet coats and they're my autumns now - NF is saved for when it gets really bad because nothing else I've tried comes close for the cold and wet.
