Lighter saddle? Any thoughts?

He's on a track system and soaked hay. I walk a fair bit when I ride, and give him breaks.

He's getting weighed again soon, hopefully he will have lost some weight. He's slimmer now than in the photos.

Sticking to the saddle question you could consider a saddle company one. Get the model that's built on a synthetic tree where only the top flaps and seat are leather, Verona maybe?

The good thing with them is that they're fully adjustable by a fitter so easy enough to buy and resell or use fit a different horse in the future. Usually £150-£250 on eBay FB and £50 ISH for a fitter.

i have a pony cob and horse on one of mine, and it’s very very light! it’s a 16.5” extra wide, on a 14.2 welsh d

3 of us on my yard of 10 horses have them, so plenty available on the 2nd hand market😂

I ride a 13hh pony and I definitely chose a saddle (Strada in the end) that both fitted AND was as light as possible. I also replaced the metal stirrups with light ones. It all adds up.

I have an old Saddle Company saddle (synthetic) which I had altered to fit my pony by the SC fitter. It's really light in weight and was cheap to buy (got mine on ebay).

The saddle’s got to fit the rider and the current one doesn’t, it’s too small. The rider’s backside is right up against the cantle in both pics, and will be causing pressure points.

It’s all well and good getting a lighter saddle, but it must fit both the rider and the horse. The horse might not be able to take a longer panel.

I’d be thinking that at 19yo that he’s an older horse creaking rather than thinking that a different saddle will help. Him liking a much lighter rider is part of that.
