Lighthearted... What do you wear to the yard when it's hot?!

I know you should wear sleeves to ride, but if it is sunny I tend to wear a strappy top (anything for a tan!) and I was really pleased with my 'tan through' gloves last year. I think it looks really peculiar to have brown arms and white hands!

Wore new BP (Racesafe) out yesterday and today - not too hot in it, so I was pleased - but I don't know if I will be able to bear it when it gets really hot! :p

always breeches boots and polo shirt with a collar to keep sun off neck for actual riding.

but for round the yard......in the real heat of summer.....flip flops, shorts and a bikini top.

mine are at home BTW!!!

Tell me more about these gloves! I am of Italian origin and tan quite easily, which just results in me looking daft with various vest top straplines all over my shoulders and BIG WHITE HANDS!!! I'd honestly rather be pale.

Sorry to hijack the thread but what summer jods do you guys recommend? I've ridden in shorts before but the stirrup leathers end up hurting my legs. I'm not one that copes well with heat AT all, a bit of sun comes out and I'm sweating and panting!

So I wondered what are the best lightweight jods around?

They are Roeckl Solar - as well as being cool to wear, they really worked and my hands were not much of a different colour to the rest of me! lol!

I paid close to £30 for them, but I have found them much cheaper here

I like Caldene Three Tech - they seem to be the coolest I've found. Very stretchy and comfy too. Wash and dry in a jiffy! :D

bikini top and shorts with tough work trainers if the girls are in, crocs if not. Had them at home til recently so often just a bikini and crocs then. now at a small yard so adding shorts this year so as not to frighten anyone!! Always decent boots when handling the youngsters, happy riding in shorts as long as I have decent footwear and my lower legs covered (pinchy stirrups) I do wear a vest top to hide the less than perfect tummy and jods or leggings if I am going out hacking though!! As teens we didn't and nearly caused various accidents, we were thinner then! Always my hat but I only wear BP to jump and have to confess to being less likely to wear it on B if it's hot.
This ^ although I put a lightweight long sleeved top on if I am riding my TB. Luckily I am on a private yard and if my YO is working then I can wear whatever I want as it would only be me there!

Thanks guys for the inspiration, so far on my shopping list I have bikini's, crocs, hot pants and a bumbag! Not quite sure I can rock that look

I ride 5 days a week so I do need to look for some l/w jods as all of mine are quite heavy, I always ride in sleeves as well.

Bumbag!! Excellent idea for carrying phones, thanks guys, I always struggle with that. Used carry it on one of those lanyards round my neck but one day the catch on it snapped and I spent the next hour pacing up and down on the common trying to find my phone.

I'm mainly just a jods and vest top person, if it's really hot I'll ride bareback in shorts. This thread has got me thinking and I've just realised my favourite down the field vest top is over 10 yrs old now! Omg, now that's value for money.

Must say the tan is coming along nicely already this year.

I have a thing about strap lines so when riding a sleeveless polo (although then my back is whiter than my arms but tanner can sort that out ). If i'm not riding then shorts and a top where the straps can be easily tucked away!

We have workers from abroad on the yard during summer so nothing is too short/ low to cause distractions ;)

I have these http://www.barnstormers.co.uk/acatalog/SHIRES_LADIES_COTTON_CREATION_JODHPURS.html
love them, look tidy and are v comfy and light to wear - pretty cheap too!

I have found that ASDA does really cheap full length leggings, anything form £3 to £6 and they are fab, only realistically last 6 months if getting used riding a lot but at that price it doesn't matter and loads cooler than jods.

Thanks Spotsrock - good idea, although I do find with leggings sometimes you have to be careful that they aren't too see through!

For just being at the yard when it's hot - shorts/rolled up jeans, strap top and trainers. For riding I'd put on leggings (lighter than jods) and short boots & chaps.

I live in South Africa, so it's hot often ;)

Wear jods anyway..and normally a big loose t-shirt or polo shirt (men's one though). Used to wear spaghetti strap tops but I'm too fair skinned and would like to look reasonable for my age when I'm 40 :) If I'm not riding I normally wear combat trousers and a strappy shirt, or shorts occasionally..

The heat doesn't bother me a huge amount, I struggle to find clothes to wear when it's cold!

Leggings and a baggy t-shirt!

I'm also doing the baggy t-shirt thing as I feel rather fat right now! I cant possibly wear jods (horrific unless you're skinny) so I wear jeans which hide fat a bit better ;) I remember the days only 5 years ago when I would be washing horses in a bikini top, tiny shorts and flipflops... but then I was slimmer back then! I keep my horses at home, so I can wear whatever I want although passing traffic can see me!

Well today is a complete contrast to what I usually go to the yard in. Didn't ride and was completely impractical but wore a thin strappy top, shorts and thin leggings with pump type trainers. Was very hot though, I would ride like that but with proper boots on haha. Had a lovely time with my mare today and she went out in her fly rug for the first time since like august :D

I wear when not riding- shorts and strap top/ vest top with small trainers.
when im riding flatting i wear vest top/ strap top with thin breeches and boots and chaps (feel ill if i get too hot)
jumping/ hacking polo top or t shirt instead of vest/ strap top.

2 years ago i used to wear t shirts and then i got THE most awful tan line on just one arm! (direction of the sun) so i had one tanned bottom of arm and very pale shoulder and one palish less tanned arm. and it didnt fade completely for about a year. :(

If i ride then its jods and a polo top, if not its shorts, vest top or polo top and im sorry to say flip flops unless i am doing anything like loading or bathing my fidgety mare! I still have last years flip flop tan lines on my feet!
