Hiya, I have a TB who headshakes at this time of year, May - Juneish. Pollen related I believe, but he also gets very easily agitated by flys. I have tried a nose net when ridden which makes no difference. Interestingly the only improvement has been when ridden with a traditional type fly fringe with big strands - the only reason I can think of is that he cannot see the flies around his head & concentrates more on where he is going?! I dont believe it is photic as in a bright non windy non fly type day he is fine!
Anyway, I want to make him more comfortable out grazing. I struggle to keep a fringe on him when out as his friends rather like removing it and he seems to sweat & get a bit itchy under the fly mask I have. However it is quite heavy duty I suppose with alot of fleece around the edges.
Can anyone recommend a light weight one - possibly with the nose covered too which may help with the pollen too??
:)

Cashel Crusader - light weight, get the one with the ears and nose option. I won't use anything else on my horses. They don't get sweaty, no problems with rubbing and mine wear them 24 x 7 from May to September. Not the cheapest, but for me the best on the market, and I have tried many of them over the years.

Shire fly veil, very soft & lightweight. Love mine & my horse seems a lot happier this year already. But they do come rather big I normally have everything in full for my 15.3 WB & she has had to have a cob size & it fits just fine.

Ditto this, i've got them for all my lot and think they're fab. Agree on the sizings too, they do seem to be on the generous side.

Ditto the cashel ones...very very good....my hairy cob has his on today to try and stop is pink nose getting sun burnt, he keeps rubbing the sun cream off on his legs!
