I am about to paint tow of my stables, these two have smooth plywood style linings which will take paint well.
The other two are Sterling board which is bitty on the surface and I'm not convinced they will take being painted in the same way, so am having a rethink on them. One idea that came to me was to line the bottom halves with rubber. It wouldn't need to be heavy duty as would have the sterling board behind it, and while Stokbord looks very nice the price doesn't!
Has anyone done this, and if so does it work, does the lining stay in place or sag over time, or would LW matting etc be better? I saw some EVA's on a website the other day for about £18 a sheet, which didn't seem too painful but have no experience of that. They say if kicked it slowly regains its shape. I quite like the idea of being able to easily wipe over the surface as we sometimes use these boxes for foaling and helps with the hygiene.
Any suggestions, as ever, welcomed.

I have eva mats on my stable walls - timber stables. I got them cheap off a company selling on ebay simply because they are green! I couldn't believe people would pay extra for black, I think green is far nicer!

Anyway, they have been great for me. My mare likes to wee up the walls (such a lady) and I can just easily clean the eva with soapy water and they come up like new. My two horses aren't stable kickers their specialism is exploring with their teeth. I was a bit worried that they would do serious damage but although they have scraped their teeth along it a bit they haven't caused any real damage.

I had stokboard before and think the eva is a much better product. They did make a mess of the stokboard with their teeth and when it expanded in summer it really bowed out looking a bit of a mess.

Hello,
I have done painting, staining, stokboard, EVA (green) and plain wood. I found the EVA the
easiest to keep clean. When I washed the floor rubber matting, I brushed the walls,
too, and they came up like new. Make sure you use enough fixings at the top, as
I did not the first time, and they sagged so I had to do it again. The thick stokboard
did not sag or spread (much), but was much harder to fit, and I found the half black
made the box darker somehow.

Good luck -- dene

Thanks, I hadn't seen any replies so thought the whole idea was too stupid for words!
I favour the EVA, I have read about Stokbord moving in the heat and don't need it doing that. I hadn't tried Ebay for EVA so think I'll see what I can find. Alquamarim, can I ask if you did the whole stable green?
