Hi all,

can anyone recommend me a decent lightweight turnout, no fill? Pony is usually unrugged but I'm after a waterproof rug to keep him dry in the rain! He is a Connemara cross, quite broad around the chest and shoulders. Looking to spend no more than £50. PremierEquine have their buster light on sale but not sure if it will be any good? Have also been looking at Amigo hero and the Shires tempest.

Thanks xx

This is what I use my Shires Tempest Lite for (although he's a 17hh pony ;) ). He doesn't get cold, but sometimes we need to keep the rain off for a while. I'm on my third now (the first one is still going fine, three years old now, the second I cannot find, I put it away safely somewhere in April... the third arrived in the post last week :) ).

ETA - careful with the Amigos. The regular Amigos are OK (although my broad chested horse needed a size up, I think), but the ones that are only part lined seem to leak.

I've just bought a Masta Avante no-fill combo for my cob from equestrian clearence, it was £39.99, had terrible reviews on here and other forums, (didn't check till after I bought it, lol) but its actually pretty good! Fits very well, is completely waterproof (so far!) and I'm very pleased with it.

All mine have lightweight Amigos, but I don't use them for heavy rain/ rain and wind - they are great summer rugs but they are not downpour proof. I also have lightweight Rhinos for them all and they are totally weatherproof.

ive got the new range (cheap range) weatherbeeta's this year! they were £27 each in the derby house sale, about £43 normally! I was a bit worried as they don't have leg gussets but they are really good and have held out in this horrible rain over the last few days!

I've got Equitheme lightweights on my Welsh Ds. They are pretty good, one of them loves a good roll and they are both fond of a mad dash about now and again and they haven't managed to move the rugs yet.

Their heavier rugs are Shires and Weathabeeta, also great fits and nice rugs - the Weathabeeta rug is 16 years old and still going strong.

There's a fleece lined TO rug new this year apparently, trying it as we speak, a very snug fit on my 17hh TB and not really long enough on the sides for him, but fits my 16 2hh WB like a glove, 2 of mine don't need rugs for warmth, just mud protection and these rugs seem to fit the bill so far, the TB and WB are veterans so need the extra warmth of a more regular rug

Premier Equine without a doubt :) I've found they fit pretty much anything. My horse is a high withered TB and they fit him perfectly. His field pal is a barrel shaped IDxTB and they fit him perfectly too!

Swish rugs are like a cheaper Premier Equine, they are equally as brilliant :)

I have 3 no fill Amigos which don't leak. Even in torrential rain, one is 3 years old and I haven't re proofed it yet, the others are 2 years old. I highly recommend them. We tried other makes for my daughters little pony (like cottage craft etc) and they were heavy when wet and soaked through. I would recommend PE though as well as a make

I have a robinsons own brand (requisite) no fill t/o, its been brillant...pony has been bone dry underneath. A little bit baggy on him but should fit when he fills out

I really like my Amigo 1200D no fill turn out for my native pony - it's totally waterproof & P is a complete rug hooligan, it's lasted two winters surprisingly well. I bought him a Shires Tempest this year, as a spare, which I've heard good reviews about too.

2 recommendations - Shires or Gallop.

I have just bought a Gallop rainsheet off ebay, brand new with neck cover for £29.95 and was pleasantly suprised by the quality and fit.

Another vote for Shires for those with good shoulders and chests. Mine are in them, they are cheap, waterproof, fit well and last a good few years..

Cheapest supplier of Shires ?

I have 3 Amigo's all leak. They are into their 3rd season and I am undecided whether to reproof or bin.

My horse's Amigo 1200D is so waterproof you can shake the water droplets off and it's practically dry.

The 600D ones are useless and soak straight through.
