Just wondering - I know its too hot for them to be wearing them now, but what sort of time of year should they start wearing them again, and also can anyone reccommend a good one/ make?
Opps mines out at night and wearing one if its wet. Mark Todd are good, used to have a Masta Delux, but the mesh lining only lasted one year so wouldn't buy again.
Sis has one on at the moment, because it was pouring down last night and she was cold when I brought her in.
I have a Rhino one, and having been through several others I can honestly say it's one of the best rugs I've ever bought. Very light and the clip fastenings on the chest are good too.
Mine is out in her lw Mark Todd at night, she is a bit hot by morning but isn't too bothered. We've had some pretty bad rain overnight recently but it's still been warm-ish, and we decided that ours would be better hot and dry than cold and wet. They have no shelter in their fields though! We will (depending on the weather) seriously start rugging probably by October.
I love my Mark Todds, I had aWeatherbeets Landa which looked like it would have been good if it would have fit my horse's shape (large build with angular shoulders), so I bought her a Mark Todd and although it rubs slightly on one shoulder it fits everywhere else. I've had them before and they stand up to constant use well.
Ours usually start having their rugs on once they start being 'fed' again & the weather begins to take a turn for the worse!
CB & FOO have Amigo l/w turnouts & LBO has a Royston l/w turnout - all seem waterproof but the Amigos are far superior IMHO!
Ours have the pretty 'coloured' ones but the original plain navy is a better buy I believe, as it is a heavier denier, so more durable I imagine!
Small girls don't care about 'durability' though & given the choice between navy & pink or baby blue.........!
maddie has had her l/w on for a couple of nights..butit's gotten really warm again[but still wet..but she couldn't care less]
she wears an amigo l/w turnout..the BRIGHT pink one[from last year..this year they have a less "in-your-face" shade of pink!]
it's never had major leaks[spots..but thats it] i love it! and has a nice fit on her.
I start rugging around the start of october/end of september as we have to clip in october..she gets toooo fuzzy too soon!
Hi. Mine has his on at night at the moment. He can cope with wet or cold, but not both togther!
Wouldn't waste your money on anything but at Rhino/Rambo. I have tried so many others and within 1/2 seasons or a wash they have lost their waterproofing and are totally useless (incase you don't know every other make that I know of (Weatherbeeta, masta, mark todd etc...) put their waterproofing on the outside fabric of the rug, therefore it wears/washes off and in my experience no matter how many cans of re-waterproofing you put on it is never fully waterproof again, whereas Rhino and Rambo have an inner layer which is the waterproof bit, hence it will never loose it's waterproof-ness(??)) I'm fussy and they have to be 100% wtareproof!
I got a loveson one last year, very impressed with it for the price, lovely fit clips at the front and is lasting well! Mines had one on at night for the last week or so, even so her coat is 'fluffed up' already!
my mare been wearing a lightweight turnout as she's out 24/7 just now and if she gets wet she gets shivery. Her's is an amigo, we just bought it in the spring and its been fabulous, no rubbing, so far 100% waterproof, and she's been out in some pretty heavy rain last few days. If the weather is forecast nice i take it off so she really gets the benefit when its colder and wet. Great rug tho.
