Lightweight tweed jacket?

My tweed hacking jacket is pretty ancient these days and is very tweedy (!). I remember seeing mock tweed jackets in the States which looked like normal show jacket type material but simply had a tweed pattern so unless you were really close up, they passed as tweed for showing yet where nice and light. Does anyone know if I can get one in this country? If so, where?

I've never seen one. You could try to strip the lining out of your old tweed to lighten it? My daughter qualified for Pony Club dressage national finals last year and I was bemonaing the Pony Club requirement to compete in tweed as she hunts and her tweed coats are very substantial. One Mum suggested I strip out the lining - which in fairness would work - but I explained I was not about to do that to a £400 Pytchley tweed; only to be met with the incredulous response... "You hunt that dressage pony?" Yes we do - he is a hunter first and foremost. (First hunt ride of the year yesterday - yay!) Anything else is a bonus! But the point was good - you can strip the lining out.

You can get lightweight wool tweeds too. I believe wool is better than anything polyester mix, but can still get warm.

If heat is the issue could you also go for a sleeveless show shirt, or the t-shirt with a mock front kind?

I'm curious to see one of these "fake tweed" jackets, they sound like they could be nice!

My tweed for showing is ultra light weight but still a proper tweed.
Mine was from MrsCandy.
