Hi, does anybody use a lightweight liner for their rugs so that they can be washed easily? Im looking for something very thin, ie cotton, but am wondering if cotton rugs slip back? I have a fleece type rug but that is too think and also slips back. I also have under rugs that are like sleeping bag material which are lovely but too thick if I want it just as a washable liner rather than for extra warmth. Any suggestions would be great. Many thanks

I hate cotton or fleece rugs under any rug, they ride back and look so uncomfortable, will rub add dig in. I always use an amigo stable rug as any under rug. stays put with no hassle and if under a turn out you know it will not end up hanging out the back from the turn out and so will stay drier. If under a turn out good idea to remove the fillet string and attach the leg straps to the under rug as well as turn out so even more secure (both will fit through a leg strap clip) or do with mark todd rugs anyway !!!

I hate fleeces & cotton rugs as under rugs as they slip/pull back & look uncomfortable. The people who make snuggy hoods do a silky liner which is about £25,not tried one yet but I'm going to get one for this winter as I use the bibs anyway on a horse that rubs easily & figured this will stop rubs & keep my rugs clean inside.

Thank you both. I'm trying to go as light as possible so as not to over rug. I have read lately that a no fill turnout is worse than no rug as it flattens the coat so they cannot keep warm??? If it is very wet I move my three into the fields with shelters and hang haynets so don't need a no fill for rain protection. So when it is cold enough to rug then the no fill turnout with a 100g liner may be ideal to start with.

I love the Snuggy Hoods silky petticoat rugs, they are literally a smooth material with no fill or bulk, you can screw them up and hold them in one hand they are that light

they wash brilliantly and dry fast and lay the coat nicely so its shines

They have loop tabs so you can thread chest straps, fillet string and surcingles through to hold them but I only ever loop one chest strap just to stop them slipping back

they have elastic that goes under the tail so you need to get the next size up or cut the elastic off as the elastic rubs if its too tight (I cut it off) they go on over the head so no bulk at the chest

They are pricey for what they are but often appear slightly reduced on Ebay (still sold by Snuggy Hoods)

I also use their lycra body rugs as under rugs and they work well but are more of a faff

I use the amigo under my light weight and in my eyes and for horse makes it into a medium weight. Means you have extra turnout rugs !!! I have 2 lightweights and 1 medium and 1 heavy as he spends most of time in lightweight.
