Lightweigt hunter 4 year old class ..... (which bit for double bridle)

With my chap last year, I look him into Novice Hunters in a straight-bar pelham... Useless to the question, but I don't think you would need a double none of the 4 year olds in my class did :/
 
You can use any pelham or double bit (or equivalent) you wish as long as it has double reins, it is best to try as many at home and see what they go well in and are happiest in to get the best out of them when they are in the ring

Remembering the judge will ride and might not be the best rider in the world!
 
I thought you could use a pelham too? A rugby pelham with a headslip onto the second ring looks very convincingly like a double!

As for mouth piece I'd go for a cambridge (low port) as it seems to be the most accepted (and mildest)
 
if going affiliated check your rule book as to what is acceptable. a pelham is NOT a double bridle! nor is a rugby pelham though looks better with a slip head. i think it is far nicer to see a well schooled 4 year old who self carries in a hunter snaffle bridle, than a 4 year old who is worried about what is in his mouth! i would rather be lower in the placings with a well schooled balanced horse in a snaffle than worry about a double. my choice would be a proper double bridle or a snaffle dependant on the horse.

I would really prefer for it to be snaffle rather than go down the double bridle route . But I suppose it is dependant on the class .

At the moment I have just got her settled on metalab full cheek french link . Oh well, will be several months of that yet

I was convinced that a snaffle was used in novice/4yo classes, but some of your replies have made me doubt myself.

Are the RDS or the Balmoral class entry conditions from last year still on line on the relevant websites?
