Like a TH T8 Standard Compact, but not...

a TG T8 Standard Compact!
Anyone clued up on alternative saddles that might fit a horse that I've been advised to buy one for?
I'm not averse to the idea, but I'd prefer leather, and ideally second hand, as the great white is just going to be a "mooch round" horse.

I have a TG HWC and it feels very much the same to ride in, materials aside as my Fairfax.

I've seen all sorts of saddles recommended for all sorts of shapes...and we all fit differently. So the other Fairfax stable brands such as the K&M should be similar but otherwise it's best to start from first principles as just because that saddle fitted one horse doesn't mean that another saddle the same horse wore, or one person (even a fitter) says fits similarly, would necessarily fit yours iyswim.

If short backed then I'd guide you to something with wider flatter rails as that's a more usual shape whereas the Compacts have the standard tree rails that are neither wide nor flat.

That makes sense, thank you.
He's a big horse (17.2hh full Irish Draught) with a pretty normal length back, pronounced muscle atrophy on both sides from wearing a medium saddle, when he's pretty wide. I'm not in a rush to put a saddle on him, as I'm doing lots of groundwork to get him using his body better, but it'd be nice to get him doing some gentle hacking

I'd be looking for wider, flatter rails personally. It's at least, if not more, important than the headplate angle and pommel shape.

I had a Kent and Masters Compact. Lovely saddle but lord it did not work for me. Fit my horse nicely but I really struggled in it, and sold it in the end (but I am a funny shape so probably just me!)
