After something that happened today I have been pondering why some people like horses, they may not ride and have no wish to ever ride but still appreciate them as animals and respect them. But there are others that almost vehemently don't - and don't to such a degree that they think they have no place at all even being a leisure hobby/sport etc and should all be in some field, if not dead, and not out anywhere amongst us humans....
I have plenty of friends who don't like horses for a variety of reasons, for many it's down to fear of their size, being unpredicatable animals etc and in other cases an early riding experience or a one-off trekking or holiday ride that was enough to put them off for life. I understand all of that.
I'm trying to think of an equivalent of me feeling something similar about a group of people and the thing they follow as a hobby or activity and there is nothing I feel that "against" - speeding cars and motorbikes I don't appreciate as a rider but I don't then hate all car drivers or motorbike riders. I don't know if I've ever seen the same blanket attitude to dogs by someone who doesn't like dogs or who has been attacked by one. There's fear but I don't think hatred of an entire species.
If something happens to someone who isn't keen on horses it's like the horse becomes the devil incarnate instead of being seen for what they are - an animal. Bit deep and rambling train of thought for a Sunday evening, but I know there is someone out there (not here...as in HHO...generally out there...) who hates my horse tonight and thereby every horse and it's made me feel really upset.
