my mare is on box rest and i am trying to keep her happy and busy. so i bought her a hanging likit. Hung it in her stable where she cant slam it against anything.... and within seconds shes ate it :O put her whole mouth around it and chomped it in half!!! £3.50 down the drain and a horse bouncing off the walls :p is it just my mare or do anyone elses horse do that. ?

Plus I hate it when her nose is covered in the stuff and then she uses me as a giant tissue!!!!!

Yup Toto munches through likits very quickly, he can only have them occassionally

Try hanging a swede up, put a hole through it with an apple corer, takes them longer to eat than a likit

A lot of it about. I gave my mare one as a treat when I put her in for the night. When I did my 10.00pm stables, all that was left was the plastic tube - just.

Mine won't touch Likits, but give him a Supercodlivine lick and it's demolished within minutes! Get it wedged and apply enough pressure to crack it in two, one half falls out and hey presto! He gets one as a special treat now and then.

I generally stick with a Horslyx now as that will last a good six to eight weeks

One of my boys is scared stiff of his! Brought it as he loves salt licks and though it would be a lot more entertaining for him, just found out the hard way he doesnt like them when they hang! I brought the one with the likit and ball! Now a normal salt lick will be gone in hours with him!

yup mine too..

used to only give it to her for a treat when I could stand there and take it off her after a few minutes so she didn't just demolish the whoooole thing!

If only they could make it in a forma which had a small surface area so they could access a little bit and that as they licked it it wore down...

Does anyone remember when the original likits were a bitty type material?? before they were either the gungy sort or the minerally sort? They were really good as not messy and didn't seem to dissapear so quickly...I wonder why they changed their formula...?

I know when they were the gungey type made of molasses a lot of horses were getting impaction colic, where they werent licking them but eating them whole, which is why they are now dissolvable.

Mine gets the Horslyx and devours that very quickly if you leave him with it, he will ignore everything and just keep on licking. Once it is removed he gets moody and takes his 'revenge' by wiping his face alllllllllllll over me!

I have had to downsize him to the tiny ones, he had the 5k ones and would get it EVERYWHERE....definatly made me reconsider a big one for the field.

I'll second that. Go to a market or a fruit and veg shop rather than a supermarket as you'll find MASSIVE ones there that they can't get their teeth into - hours of fun!
The licks in a tub are quite good too, if you put a big one in one of those feed buckets that go over the door, they're quite a snug fit and they can't get hold of the tubs to damage them and get the licks out.
