Out walking down our local (gorgeous) field and river area, which is very popluar with dog walkers, I saw the magic dog lady! I say magic because I don't know how she copes!! She has:
1no black boxer x lab
1no GSHP (who spent the entire time running in a circle barking lol)
1no GSD x
2no heniz 57 collies
1no springer spaniel

and was walking them all and throwing a ball with chukka thingy :D As they got closer poor Lil had attracted the attention of massive boxer x lab! He decided she wasn't allowed to join in the ball chase and was to be his girlfriend!! Lil put up with it for such a long time I'm very proud of her but he started to get more and more aggressive with it, until in the end he was stood over her barking in her ear(!)

When she tried to get up he went to mouth her (not a true bite granted) but Lil took such offence at that, that she whilrled round and gave him an awesome telling off, all bright white Lil teeth and an indignant bark that said "Why you pick on me giant black mule!!!!"

Luckily at this point Magic Dog Lady decided to put him on the lead (I wasn't getting anywhere near him - just in case he took his sexual frustration out on me!)

A little bit of a pointless story, but in future what would you do in this instance? I don't doubt Lil's ability to kick the ass of most bigger dogs, BUT at the same time I'm wondering wether its better to intervene or not?!

Kitty
(and a gratuitous Lil Dil shot - how could anyone pick on her!!)

I wouldn't intervene in a case like that, big dog pushed his luck, she told him so. Natural dog behaviour and she was just protecting herself.

My two playfight, one will take it too far, the other will put them back in their place.
I've had them two years, they have often looked and sounded like dogs possessed, but I have yet to find any punctured skin.

It's a matter of looking and listening to the body language, sometimes it can look and sound worse than it is but IMO you can recognise true malice. If I find either get too growly or are acting over the top I usually step in with my voice and a step towards them with a certain menacing air usually puts them right :p

That's what I thought, and TBH the only thing I could do would be to pick Lil up, which is very bad news if its a big dog thats getting overly zealous!

She did very well IMO, in the three years she's been alive she's never uttered a cross word at anyone, and she bore it for long enough before she said "mate do one!" :D

Mmmmm as one who learnt the hard way, never intervene.
And to my shame, it was a chihuahua that nearly took my fingers off at the knuckles when I tried to get it away from dragging on my spangles ear!

Cute, isn't she?! :D

Thats my mothers carpet in our old house, thank GOD I don't have any such ridiculously deep and stupid carpets in my current house lol It was a nightmare, because let me tell you - sweet as she is, she MOULTS like a little devil!!
