Well i want to say a huge thank you to everyone who helped me get through Mia's illness. I changed my vet as i felt he wasnt taking me seriously, when i called him on monday, as she refused to get up. He just told me to give her some more bute.

Well got new vet out on wednesday and he arrived dead on time. Straight away he took a blood test, checked her heart etc. After being with her for ages he said she had mastitis, chest infection and stomach infection. Her immune was low because she had such a big foal (shes 12.3hh, top of foals head is near level with her back!).

He gave her 3 injections and left me antibiotic injections to give her every other day. After a few minutes of injecting her he asked me to walk her about outside, all she wanted to do was trot! I am so over the moon, shes back to eating and poohing for britain

I couldnt stop crying when he told me she would be ok and i seen her trot around the arena like she hadnt been out before.

Vet must have thought i was a complete idiot

So glad to hear she's feeling better

I am so pleased for you that Mia is on the mend! It wasnt just Mia at risk but also her foal.

Hope everything goes more smoothly from now on!

Shes not allowed to go out to the field until Monday, shes allowed out for a run in the arena for a short while and then back in.

Got headcollar on both foals today, wee Jacada was easier than romi and she is older! They look so cute in their wee headcollars. Romi also got her wormer today, she wasnt very impressed

What a relief! I am so pleased to read this news. I hope she continues to get better quickly.

Some vets just can't be bothered with horses, and I do wish that they'd just come out and say that. We had one, who is actually an excellent Vet, but he hates horses. He'd come out and say "I hate these damn things, but I'm on call" we would phone up and ask who was on duty and unless it was an emergency if he was on we would wait.

Never be scared to ask for a change of Vet or a second opinion, we pay enough (not griping about bills by the way) so should expect a reasonable, and professional , service.

Thats great news, I am so pleased for you. Thank heavens you changed vets. Its true that some vets just aren't interested in horse but it shocking that in this case he could have caused you the loss of your mare, and even possibly the foal. Hope Mia is back to full fitness soon.
