Lime - Good price?

I have had my soil anaylsis done on our paddocks - interesting stuff. Looks like it is generally ok but a very low PH. They recommend lime, at a cost of £12 per 25kg - area requires 1000kg. Does this sound reasonable?

Don't know about that specific price but I have just been quoted £1190 to lime and fertilise (with calcified seaweed) my 13 acres - that includes spreading it.

Excuse me why I choke we pay £20/ton for crushed limestone supplied and spread . What PH out of interest did they quote . Also what form of lime as a ton does not go very far when you are trying to resolve a diffiency.

I pay £77 for calciprills 600kg. That is granulated lime and we spread it ourselves. We cannot use crushed lime as the tractor and lime spreader cannot get through our old narrow gateways.

It is not the cost of the lime but the cost of transport and spreading. I'm assuming you are doing it yourself? Yes, people really did used to spread things like lime and fertiliser by hand. There's one writing this!

Can you not put off liming until your neighbours get their land limed? Then do a deal and get the contractor to do your land on the same day. Or do you really want to spread 40 bags of lime by yourself and pay through the nose for the privilege?
