Does anyone on here have limited horsey company? Do you find you lack motivation at all?
My motivation is suffering at the moment, not helped by the hacking being very limited this time of year. I would appreciate hearing what others do in a similar position.
Thanks

I am really happy hacking alone. I can choose my own time, speed, route etc:) Also, I can talk/ sing to my horse without feeling an idiot!

For motivation, can you set mini goals? I also 'school' out hacking, as my one flattish piece of ground is flooded, so I transition, between and within paces, leg yield, turn on forehand in zig zags, shoulder in etc along quiet sections.

I don't have anyone to ride with at the moment. I think I've ridden out three times this year with two different people. I don't usually mind hacking alone however I do have a very green pony who really needs company to get her confidence up. Luckily I also have a second pony who will hack anywhere on her own quite happily so I don't have to miss out on my hacking. I've had a month of limited hacking in terms of access/mud/other issues and I'm looking forward to this coming week where I will gain my 'usual' hack back.

I don't worry too much about motivation as I know I will be back in the swing of it once the fields dry out, the nights are lighter etc.

Do you have transport? I wondered if you could arrange to meet someone in a good hacking area and go for a spin? Are there many other horses in your area? Putting an advert in your local tack shop/preloved might help you to find someone.

I actually prefer hacking alone. You see so much more out and about on your own. I also enjoy the way the relationship between me and the horse continually develops when it's just the two of us.

Motivation is rarely an issue either. Any weather, I'm out and about.

I kept mine at home throughout secondary school and university. For 7 of those years I was riding regularly (for the last 5 I had my old retired girl still, we went out for gentle hacks) with one neighbour with a horse. I did 99.99% of my hacks on my own (went with neighbour twice and met friends once).

Now I'm at a yard and don't have the confidence with my current horse to hack out on my own, and I really miss it! It's one of the reasons I have decided to sell.

I did sometimes pine for horsey company a bit at home, and it is nice to have people to ride out with, but I'd rather keep at home again! Yes, sometimes I did lack motivation at home but I like doing things in my own time as it is!

I do sometimes struggle for motivation, and used to keep mine on my own with difficult hacking. I also work with horses, so do find that it can become a chore at times. I love my girls, but I find that I make sure I have something to aim for to keep me going. This side of Christmas, if the weather is vile, they don't go out, my competing won't start til march at the earliest, so I give myself a break at times which I find important.
