Pony had a group of lumps appear in the summer on his neck, even with fly rug on! We thought they must be fly bites and they seemed to go down after a few weeks. He has now, over the last few weeks, been clipped and I've found he has lines of lumps on his neck to his shoulder and on one side they are from the girth area to his flank.
Any ideas??? They don't seem to bother him but they do have scabs in the middle. Everyone had told me they are bites but now they are visible in lines I'm abit worried . Will get the vet next week.

He's either too hot or is eating haylage which is a bit rich for him. I got the vet out to one of ours for the very same thing. Ours had a line of small lumps from halfway down his neck and going down his shoulder

Thanks for those ideas ... Did wonder of it might be a kind of sweat rash. It started whe he went into a new paddock with nice grass in the summer and has increased again now and he is on a different batch of hay so maybe it's that...

I'd agree with the above allergy to something my mare came out in lumps all over when I put her on a food containing barley and since then when I have introduced new food(barley free obviously)or supplements she always gets a few lumps on her neck and shoulders until her body adjusts to it after a few days.

Took him to the vet and she seems to think its protein spots so I'm putting him onto a known source of hay that he's ok with and we'll see if that helps. She said she could give a steroid injection to help the lumps go down but was not keen to as he's 25. So we'll have to wait and see!
