Since my horse started having physio his appetite has increased by 100%! He was always left hay and some hard feed- now he hoovers it all up and has put on tonnes of weight in 2 weeks!

My last horse would not eat much hay and in the end refused to even be brought in from the field. I though she was just being a mare
This was because she was out in her poll and stiff through her right side, it was just too painful for her to eat. Following this the EDT found problems with the wear pattern on her teeth which we believe was down to a low grade pain in her neck.
Could be something similar perhaps?Just a thought that!

One of the major indicators of pain is depression, which is linked to loss of apetite so that makes perfect sense. It could also be, as the previous poster suggested, that it has been uncomfortable for him to eat previously.

It could be, too, that his body is undergoing rapid regerneration during the healing process so he requires more calories.

Most likely some combination of factors in play but it certainly shows the interplay between health - both physical and mental - and condition.
