Link between high testosterone and canine teeth in mares?

My mare exhibits some stallion like(I think!) behaviour . She is very, very vocal and would be much more likely to strike out with her forelegs as opposed to hinds. She also has canine teeth. Could these signs be an indicator of high testosterone levels and would bloods give a definate diagnosis? If anyone has any experience to share I would appreciate it , Thank You

The theory is that generally mares who are likely to be dominant, or born to a position of herd-leader, will grow canines ..... however I'm really not so sure this is true as our little pony has them and she sure as heck isn't dominant.

my mare has them - they are quite small but definitely there. And yes, she is a very dominant mare! I believe that stallion-like behaviour can also be a sign of an ovarian cyst. Mine got checked out for this but thankfully the ovaries were ok. Are your mare's seasons normal?

As far as I know there has not been a scientific study by the vets colleges on this subject but as a dentist every mare I have worked on and found with canine teeth has had a hormone imbalance. Canine teeth should only be found in males. males have testerone so it is very possible that canines are a sign of testerone.

For everyone out there I have a question. Has anyone who breeds ever had a mare with canine teeth that has had a foal?

Thank You Tia, Lene horse, Mad cob fan and Albertancowboy
:-) for your replies.
She is dominant and the herd leader (although street wise ponies have taken over in the past. Although I suspect there is more to the pecking order than meets the eye!) TBH I'm vague regarding her seasons , sorry I'm learning here. She tends to grow a hand and squirt in new situations whenever and whatever really. I have a diary that I use for recording her work, farrier app. etc so I will start adding her seasons or what appears to be a season LOL.
*********Lenehorse or anyone else that knows, how are ovarian cysts dignosed? ****************
Albertan cowboy, see my note above on vagueness of seasons as clarification that I most defo don't breed horses LOL so sorry I can't help you back

Yes my pony with the canines has a foal who is just over 2 months old at the moment. Why?

Re ovary check - My vet did an internal examination (rubber glove up the bum!). We were all expecting him to be kicked from one end of the block to the other but the mare just stood there and smiled! She definitely has a hormone imbalance though but has been 100% better since going on a product called hormonise (liquid chaste berry)

Aaahhhhh, sounds like that tickled her fancy LOL
