Hi all ive had my new horse now for a few months when he came to me he was very skinny hinds sticking out ribs showing he has now put abit of weight on i can still see his ribs but you can now see a big gut underneath his hinds are slowly coming on but i dont think what im feeding is working completely right for him as he shold of put more weight on buy now, so question is Linseed oil or micronised linseed? Ive never fed any myself so am novice to feeding this, which is better im wanting it for weight gain rather than shiny coat, i no you never want a horse to put weight very quick but how soon will i start to see results & how much shall i feed? ive heard of one which is seeds which need to be grinded up i cant do this so if this is one of them please let me know,
shire x, age 25, out of work, currently stabled, lots hay

thanks in advance

or would someone recommend a feed with this in would this be better
his coat could do with some condition & he does now & then have flaky skin

just read of someone elses post linseed sent there horse loopy, im not good around horses that are loopy so i really hope this is not the case hes a quite chap

i fed show improver pencils to my youngster in a bad state ive read they have EQUI-JEWEL in it not sure with a older horse??? would this over rule linseed?

I would say micronised as the body absorbs it better, half a mug every day and you should see an improvement in coat within a month or two. Couldnt say what else to feed as mine is on a low sugar/starch diet!

I'd also say micronised linseed.... but also he'll need a bit more than just that and hay, but you don't say what else he's getting?

I'd suggest that you get him onto speedibeet, linseed meal and some low sugar chaff (I use alfa plus, but mine are working hard, and until he's in work it would maybe be a bit much for him!)...
