currently feeding 2 x mugs of Charnwood micronised per day however pony is a fairly picky eater and even dampened (he wont eat mash type feeds) and mixed with grass nuts he manages to separate out the linseed and leave some of it (he is a crunchy nut/pellet addict!)

thinking of swapping to oil, is it like for like ie 2 mugs a day for the same calories? which is a LOT of oil (and more £££)

Very interested in responses - I can't feed micronised linseed as the mice in our barn love it and turn all my horse's poo into shrapnel looking for the whole seeds.

Hopefully these 2 links work...

I switched to Omega Rice from micronised linseed - horse can be fussy and doesn't like overly wet feeds (was dampening it down), now wolfs it down and hold weight much better, I did speak to Omega about it and they said more calories in the omega rice than straight linseed (micronised), if that helps at all!

If you are trying for calories even Spillers say supermarket rapeseed oil is fine if fed with vitamin E.

I'm lucky mine likes slop 🙈

If yours is picky then just a heads up, the oil wetness and texture can be off putting for some, especially in the quantities needed for calories.

But I have used outshine for a picky one that wouldn't do linseed or oil before, so that or some of the other pelleted fats like equijewel might be worth considering.

it's a bit of a faff but you can soak grass nuts in very minimal water and then you can break them up to the same consistency as the linseed and he won't be able to pick it out. I used that technique to feed psyllium husk. Might work if he likes the grass nuts enough.

might try with hot water as that seems to make them kind of semi solid fluffy, might mix in better?!
