OK - just bought a 5l bottle of NAF Linseed Oil at £31!! Good god, I nearly fainted at the price but had run out so need to purchase asap. Anyway, I want to be better prepped for next time so anyone on here know of good quality but cheaper oil that can be purchased on line?

Thanks guys x

Yeah agree with the above. The micronised is easier for the horse to digest too. If you can get your feed merchant to order it for you then it would be cheaper again.

Lady on Top Spec helpline so interesting on this. Apparently still no proof that Linseed OIL (as opposed to micronised) can be absorbed - whereas there is proof on soya oil - which is a quarter of the price - so use that. Also no more than 100 gms of either (but ring free helpline).

I think it can be absorbed as I could see a change in my mares hooves from when I started feeding it (I mean a line not straight away!) but I hope the micronised will be better!

Actually ANY vegetable oil will have pretty much the same effect, but is difficult for the horse's gut to absorb (linseed oil too, but not the seed itself, either boiled or micronised which is why it is better to feed).

In my understanding unless you buy cold pressed linseed oil and keep it in the fridge you are only feeding an oil. So it depends what you are feeding it for which you feed.
Most forms of oil have been heated in the extraction process so goodies apart from the oil are lost/filtered out.
To get the benefit of whole linseed without perceived risk is why the micronization process was developed I believe.

Linseed meal isn't necessarily the same as micronised linseed, it can be what is left after pressing/processing for the pure oil.
