Lions turn on trainer.

All you can think of is - poor lions keep in that cage and made to perform it is so sad :(

Also in the wild there are never that many male lions together?

At one stage a man had a lion on each arm - I wonder what happened to him:rolleyes:

Bloody hell. Hope the guy is ok (and the traumatised sounding children!) but agree that looks like a horrible situation for Lions. :(

Whole thing looks like an accident waiting to happen. The surrounding fence looks very low and having all these male animals together seems like an unwise idea. Glad the guy is OK but maybe he should pack it in and stop torturing the poor animals. I don't see the attraction of the animal part circus and I am really glad it's not very popular anymore in many countries.

They deserve it at the end of the day (the tamers). If you keep lions all penned up and try to make ANY wild animal like that 'perform' its going to get pretty stressed out yet they're surprised when they attack...?!

aall i can say is well played lions.. someone had to break the ice one day..poor things are not here to be thrust in cages!!

Of course could this not also apply to horses who are confined unnaturally (to stables-similar size to lions cages...) and made to perfore tricks (jumping..dressage..western..) etc...
Of course, some have great lives with lots of turnout in big spaces. Some are confined to small paddocks or not turned out at all...
Where's the difference?

I have absolutley no sympathy with the individuals involved except for the lions. Lions should NOT be in the circus, they should be in the wilds of Africa.

Nope :)

Huge differences, predator, prey etc

Horses benefit from being friends with us (it was how they domesticated themselves) as being close to human settlements and camp fires protected them from predators. Lions don't need out protection, we need it from them still quite obviously! ;) :D

Horses are domesticated animals which have shown an evolutionary propensity, strengthened by centuries of breeding, for learning to live with and benefit from co-operation with humans - lions are not! Of course this doesn't excuse mistreating horses, their welfare should be taken into account, and I for one am all for turning out, but the welfare of horses is much more compatible with life with humans than the welfare of lions.

Absolutely disgusting to confine and tease large prey animals in this way to try and make money, the man deserves all he gets, the lions should be in the wild where they belong.

There should be a law against these men treating and imprisoning large animals in this way just to fill there pockets.

Poor lions, and hope they guy is ok.
But did anyone else notice how the two lions were only going for the 'tamer' ? I think were just sooo annoyed with being told what to do they snapped, unfortunately though will now be seen as dangerous animals and probably put down. The other lions looked alot younger than the two which atacked him.
Also what was with the guy humming whilst this was happening??

One is a horse...one is a lion. ;)

Different animals, its like saying keeping dogs as pets is cruel because they don't get to act like wolves.

I have no qualms stabling/riding a horse, but would be not be happy treating a zebra in the same way.

Ok but what about dogs, they are predators and pack animals just like lions. I think the main distinction is wild vs domesticated. Horses, dogs and cats have lived with humans for thousands of years. From birth they are cared for by us and depend upon us for their most basic needs. Not saying that none of them turn nasty but that is usually ill treatment.

Hopefully this event will put people off going to these sorts of circus's, if noone went they would stop doing using wild animals in this way.

Had they been serious on a kill it would have been straight for a suffocating neck bite,so I believe they were just being a bit frisky.

If you do that as a job, you take that risk. I didn't like the way the lions were jabbed, when it looked like they weren't doing anything, however not being a lion tamer myself, I guess maybe they were pre-emtive strikes. Be that as it may, you have to admire the awesome power and agility of those animals. They are true predators.

You'd think working with such potentially dangerous animals there would be better precautions for an attack like this, like a tranquilising gun in case something goes wrong the hoses they were using seemed to be doing nothing.

Glad the guy survived and my heart goes to the lions and the audience who had to watch that, especially the kids who sounded very upset.

I like the fact that one of the lions just remains stood on the stool behind throughout the whole thing.

Hopefully it will make people realise that what they think is family entertainment going to watch these poor animals perform and live they way they do will of course back fire one day and unfortunately kill someone, course it's not nice to see anyone getting injured but it's so obvious, Lions belong in the wild, perhaps it takes something like this to stop people going and put organisations like this out of business but yes shocking footage. :(
