Lip strap on Pelham

[Chestnut mare]

Do u have to use 1? I'm going to try my mare back in her Pelham as she's been naughty cantering in company! The lip strap is broken . It has a curb chain and roundings.

it doesnt need a lip strap, but looks better with it.

also stops you loosing your curb chain if it comes off.
