Has anyone ever used a lip strap with a dutch gag?? I have seen them used and just wondered if this is the correct way to do things? If so where are they meant to go?

Do you man a lip strap or a curb chain?

Lip strap would not work well, as the only possible use is to keep the shanks together and a lip strap isn't strong enough for that.

you use the top rings - correct name is an american curb strap. It applies curb pressure, although higher than the curb groove. It has two effects, the curb tends to add more brakes and lower the head, but it also reduces the gag sliding action of the bit and prevents the cheek peice sliding too far forward.

A lip strap keeps the curb chain in place and prevents losing it on pelhams, which have a special slot for them

Here is one - its the thin strap in between the roundings
