Lipizzaner x Connemara ????

Hi - does anyone have any knowledge / experience of this cross?? I have a grade 1 Lipizzaner mare whom I am considering covering with a Connemara. With the intention of keeping the foal for myself, aiming for a little showing, mainly dressage and hacking. Any thoughts gratefully received as I seem unable to find any other cross of this type??
 
I have never seen one but would have thought it would be nice, connies have a bit of lippazanner type blood in them anyway, from way back I believe.
Why would you prefer not to breed a pure lippy from her?
 
The Connemara I am using on my TBs this year is very baroque looking looking and is even a colour people in Cork call "Spanish Grey" which is a slightly "fleabitten grey". All of the baroque horses share similar qualities so I think it would be a fantastic cross as you would most likely get the flamboyance of the Lippizaner and the workmanlike qualities of the Connemara and jumping ability. Lucky You:)

PS: Have to ask like others, why not go for the purebred?

My reason for not going for a purebred - I have just developed a back problem, basically arthritus in my lower back - which I am doing everything I can to resolve! However, riding my lippy - due to her lovely movement - is very uncomfortable for meto ride. We are just hacking at the moment, I'm really missing lessons, clinics and competing etc. I have sat on other horses - TB, Andulucian, ID and I find riding/sitting to their movement a lot easier. So - right or wrong (?) my theory is - breeding something that may or may not (??) be easier for me to ride. Also - my mare has a fabulous temperament, but is very spooky/tense - I'm hoping putting a bit of native in could help to overcome this - again right or wrong - I do not know?? She is also 15 years old - so its rather now or never.

I have yet been able to trace another conny x lippy - which I am also finding quite exciting - the not knowing??!!

Please feel free to let me know your thoughts!

Used to sometimes ride a lip x cob for a woman, it was approx 13.2 so must have been a small cob! It was very strong but did dressage and jumped fairly well. It had the face of a lip, withe the roman nose. Was a nice pony though!
 
I would be inclined to buy something for yourself to be honest. Connemaras can have a very stubborn streak and I'm not totally convinced the two would complement each othr very well.
PArticularly as you have a bad back, I would go and find a horse that is comfy for you, there is no guarantee the movement wont be passed on!
 
You mustn't have ever tried to convince one it wants to do something that it doesn't want to do! (e.g water, ditches..) When they do things, they do them very well. When they don;t, they are the masters of simply declining...
 
Connemaras stubborn? Not in my experience and I live in the heart of Connemara country. They jump, a lot of guys hunt them because they are so handy and clever in preference to a horse. Obviously there will always be the odd one but stubborness not a trait I am familiar with.

Susie T - I am lucky in that I have a small livery yard so always have others to ride - but yes - will probably buy a new horse for my husband that I can also ride.

All the connies I know (which is only a handfull) seem to be so versatile with wonderfull temperaments.

The conny stallion I have chosen has a good dressage performance record, which is ideally the direction I would like to go in. I just hope the foal will be big enough - the stallion is 14.1 my mare 14.3 - I am fairly small, 5'4" - so as long as it reaches 14.2??? I guesss thats just the chance I will have to take!!
 
that sounds fantastic :) i am riding a connie mare and she is an absoloute treasure. just wonderful, done everything, now due to navi she hacks, dressage and goes showing, an has been very successdful. i am nervy novicy and she looks after me. go for it :D you are gonna have one stunning foal ;)
