Hi All,
I have a 12 year old GSP bitch who, although slowing down a bit now due to her age,is in good health. About two years ago a lipoma started to form right on the bottom of her back. I took her straight to the vet as worried it was a nasty but it was confirmed that it was a lipoma and as it wasn't causing any harm to leave it.12 months down the line and whilst giving her a brush it exploded.Over the 12 months it had tripled in size and looked like a tennis ball under her skin.It had gone very thin on the top and the action of me brushing it broke the fragile skin and released what was lurking inside.
Straight to vets, cleaned up and antibiotics but again recommended to leave it...It started to refill almost immediately.
Almost exactly 12 months to the day this thing burst again and I have never seen anything like it. Back to vets and more anti biotics and I have made up my mind that it needs to come off. It isn't bothering her on a daily basis but it must cause her discomfort when it bursts open . It causes me discomfort I can tell you!!!
The vet ( my new vet who is fab) and I have had a full and frank discussion and she is happy to remove it as long as I understand the risks. I am worried this thing will get infected if it bursts again but I am so nervous about putting her through an operation at her age. I would never forgive myself if anything went wrong.
Does anyone have any experience of this ?
Thanks all xxx
