you should see an obvious change in the horse within 12 hours of it being administered - a horse at our yard coliced and within 8 hours you could see a difference and he was back to himself just about! if there is not change (so little/no poo and hes still looking off/showing signs of colic) i would re ring the vet and get them back out asap where they will either re-treat or advise that the horse is taken into the vet clinic - hope your horse gets better soon by the way
In litres it doesn't work- in my experience. It worked for a horse that had an impaction when he was admitted to Liphook and tubed into him in gallons and gallons of the stuff.
Liquid paraffin may not be enough to shift an established impaction. I'd get the vet back out; he's likely to need serial treatments to get things shifted. I prefer using epsom salts in water for there cases, as I don't think liquid paraffin always gets where you want it to go.
I'm sorry, I don't know how long your horse has been ill, but If he remains painful and things don't start moving I'd discuss referral.
Referal is already playing on vets mind..... but he is thinking he could get things moving and try hold off?! Horse started showing signs Sun am, hasnt eaten or drunk since sun eve and has done a grand total of 4 poo since saturday/sunday morning
Think I would be starting to ask for a referral, even if it is just to monitor him at hospital especially as he is showing signs of discomfort again. If he has not been drinking as well, this is not going to help either.
Keeping fingers crossed for a positive outcome for you both.
