Hi everybody, I've just joined the forum and hope one of you can answer a question I have.

I've just been watching clips of Milton on Youtube - do any of you remember him? He originally belonged to showjumper Caroline Bradley, who died tragically young while competing. Milton was known as "Simply the best".

I seem to remember that as Caroline's great showjumper he was called Tigre but then was renamed Milton after her death.

Can anyone clarify that for me? There is very little information about Caroline or Tigre on the net, so I'm hoping someone here will remember.

No Milton and Tigre where different horses, Milton was a youngster when she sadly died and i have a feeling he was to strong for her and had already got someone else ridding him then, but that may be very wrong so dont take my word for it, and asking people if they 'remember' Milton in my oppinion is like asking if the 'pope is catholic'

you also failed to mention John Whittaker in your post which is unthinkable when talkindg about Milton

I stand to be corrected but I think that he was sold to another rider when he was at the peak of his career, but due to one thing or another he was never very successful with his new rider.

now this has brought back some fantastic memories from my childhood / teenage years - showjumping on the BBC prime time all those fab riders / horses - caroline bradley, john & micheal whikater, harvey smith david broome, malcom phyrah, ted edgar & elizabeth, fab horse anglezark, queensway philco, milton, tigre, stroller .....so many .... what an era ... mind you this new lot coming through will hopefully hold those memories for the youngsters that are avid fans today. british showjumping you can't beat it !!!

harvey smith, malcolm phyrah.... there's a couple of names i haven't heard in a few years.... I actually got to meet Milton and Desert Orchid at an Open Day at Middleham racing stables. They did a lap of the gallops and then met the crowds. Milton was so excited to be in front of a crowd that he bronced all down one side!

Caroline had a horse called Tigre who was sold and never came good for his new rider (Paddy McMahon)

She also rode (owned?) a Dutch Warmblood stallion called Marius, Marius sired Milton who I believe belonged to Caroline, her parents owned him when John Whittaker was riding him.

Caroline owned Tigre in partnership with some businessman, they either fell out or he wanted to cash the horse in, it being phenomenonally successful, Caroline couldn't raise the money and Tigre was sold by sealed bid. He never replicated the success he had under Caroline. I think Milton was sent to John Whitaker after Caroline's tragic death.
Anyone remember Beau Supreme, who was a cracking Grade A and also breathtakingly handsome?

So does anyone know what happened to Tigre?

Tigre was bought for Caroline Bradley to ride by Mr D Bannocks and sponsored by Bannocks Tigre Marble.
He was eventually sold on to Paddy McMahon

I also hope to get some accurate information on Wikipedia and I may also do a website all about Tigre and his exploits.

I can remember coming home from work or school (not sure which) and being told by my mother that Caroline Bradley had died. It seemed unbelievable.

Remember all those horses well.

Used to always really like Psalm as well who was ridden by Ann Moore - and what about Pennwood Forge Mill - was at HOYS when he won the Grand Prix.
